Streaming service Netflix is expanding its game lineup with the launch of two more titles. The new games are called Shatter Remastered and This Is A True Story.
The two new games are now available for iOS and Android
users. Netflix also teased its upcoming FPS game called Into the Dead 2:
Unleashed.
The first game, Shatter Remastered, is inspired by New
Zealand developer PikPok. It is an updated version of Shatter, a game from New
Zealand developer Sidhe that was originally released for PlayStation 3 in 2009.
The updated version, optimized for mobile devices, includes
global leaderboards so that users can track their high scores against other
players around the world.
The second game, This Is A True Story, is an educational
game designed to raise awareness about the lack of safe water in some parts of
the world.
The game was developed by Frosty Pop in collaboration with
Charity: Water, a non-profit organization working to provide clean and safe
drinking water to people in developing countries.
The game shares a true story of the daily struggle of a
Sub-Saharan African woman to get water for her family. It is based on real-life
interviews and experiences and allows players to explore hand-drawn landscapes
while surviving a windstorm, hunters, and more.
As for Into the Dead 2: Unleashed, Netflix hasn't said an
exact release date for the game. But she indicated that it will be released
soon.
Like Shatter Remastered, the upcoming game is developed by
PikPok. This game is a sequel to Into the Dead.
Players in the game must fend off zombie threats while
traversing rugged terrain. The game features multiple chapters, stages, and
challenges where players can unlock weapons, firearms, explosives, and more.
Netflix bought another studio as part of its gaming payment
Like other Netflix games, users are directed to new games
through the company's apps across iOS and Android.
Android users can find games in multiple places, including
the Games tab in the app's main navigation bar. While iOS games are displayed
in a dedicated row.
The games themselves are hosted via the platforms' app
stores, not through the Netflix infrastructure. But only users of the platform
can operate it. After installation, the games prompt users to authenticate with
their Netflix account information.
The platform has been developing its gaming service since
late last year when it launched its initial collection of Stranger Things and
other games.
The company has since launched several other games,
including Arcanium: Rise of Akhan, Asphalt Xtreme, Bowling Ballers, Card Blast,
Dominoes Café, and Dungeon Dwarves.
The company added another game developer to its ranks,
announcing that it had acquired Boss Fight Entertainment, a Texas-based studio.
Boss Fight Entertainment is the third game studio to be
acquired by Netflix after Night School Studio and Next Games.
Previous games from Boss Fight Entertainment include a
strategy game called Dungeon Boss. The studio was founded after the closure of
Zynga's Dallas studio, which developed the Facebook game CastleVille.
